Just a few more days and it’s Halloween. The house is decorated, costumes are hanging in the closet, candy is patiently waiting for little ones to knock on the door and yell ‘TRICK or TREAT’; there is not much more to do but wait for the big day. And then it hits me….create a new tradition; Halloween breakfast. So I scoured Pinterest in hopes of finding the perfect Halloween breakfast.
This is cute but not very healthy. Let’s keep looking and see what alternatives we find.
Boiled egg eyeballs…..this is pretty cool but to be honest I am not sure I could eat these because they would feel too much like an eyeball. LOL.
This looks so yummy, using a strawberry jam or something like that for the blooooood.
I was also thinking of blending up some spinach and mixing it in with scrambled eggs so they would turn green. Then you could put ketchup on them (my kiddo loves ketchup on his scrambled eggs) or salsa and there you have it…frankenstein eggs with a side of blllooood.
Or you can cut out different shapes (ghost, witches hat, etc,) in slices of bread and make french toast (or pane carrozza as my mom and dad call it). You can also cut out these shapes and make sppooky little sandwiches for the kiddos lunch. Okay, so it may seem a little corny but I love it!!! Why not keep the fun going? 😉
Just when I think the fun and excitement of Halloween is drawing to an end, I see these. Yep, I am stoked!!! Can’t wait to make these for my little man…..and myself if I am going to be totally honest. 😉
Oh and I tried yet another vlog. It’s funny the looks you get when you walk down the street or in a store and you are vlogging. Oh well, I am doing it for your viewing enjoyment so it’s all worth it. 🙂
On the heals of Canada, Day July 4th is quickly approaching and that means more party prepping. Where do I turn for ideas? Why, Pinterest of course. 😉
Since we are on a kick to be healthy, I don’t want to slow that down just because it’s a holiday. Here are some cool ways to enjoy the festivities with some healthy alternatives to the usual BBQ burger and beer.
Take this veggie burger and patriotic salad for example; they look delish if you ask me.
Or maybe ribs are more your style….mmmmmm ribs! Just remember, portion control and add more veggies to your plate then ribs.
And don’t forget to stay hydrated. On a hot day, a tall glass of ice tea really hits the spot. As of late I am in love with peach ice tea; I just can’t get enough.
Or how about this: blend chilled watermelon with coconut water, fresh lime and mint. So pretty!
Whatever you may be drinking, adding some fruit filled festive ice cubes can keep it cool and pretty….it’s all about presentation people.
And last but no least, the evening can’t be complete without something sweet.
So whatever you guys decide to do this fourth of July, keep it healthy, keep if fun, keep it festive and keep it safe!
I have two weaknesses when it comes to food: chocolate and ice cream. There is nothing better on a hot summer day than a cold and creamy ice cream cone….or bowl of ice cream….or heck I’ve been known to eat it right out of the box before. LOL! I told you, it is a weakness. 🙂
Now that I am doing my best to eat as healthy as possible, I decided I need to look for an alternative to ice cream. My friend let me in on little secret – frozen banana “ice cream”. She said it is so sweet and creamy that is is just as good as ice cream – WHAT??! Impossible.
There is only one way to know for sure…try it.
Step 1 – Freeze Bananas.
Step 2 – Get new bananas, PEEL bananas, then freeze them. LOL – Peeling banana’s prior to freezing them is kinda crucial. 😉
Step 3 – Put frozen bananas in food processor or blender and blend, blend, blend.
Step 4 – Add a little bit (like 1/4 cup max) of milk (I did this to help it blend and make it a creamier)
Step 5 – Dish out and add toppings if desired. On this round, I added a little bit of Nutella for little man and I. Jason added some nuts and Nutella and said it was AWESOME!
Verdict: SUCCESS!!!! Little man ate his and mine. Best part – I felt totally guilt free giving him seconds of this sweet snack. 🙂 There are also a ton of variations that you can try with this, such as adding frozen strawberries, blueberries, or peanut butter…so many delicious combinations that I want to try.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. 🙂
