Fabulous Fall

Keep Calm and Enjoy #Fall, #autumn #SmittenScrubs @Gina Gab Solórzano Rau Scrubs #nurse #nursing #healthcare #studentnurse #registerednurse #LPN #CNA #fashion #rocknroll #rockstar #trend #style

Time flies by and often we take each day for granted. I am doing my best to remind myself that every day and eveyr season is a gift, and that we should really enjoy each to their fullest.

I will admit, of all the seasons, this is the one I liked the least; the only thing that made it somewhat tolerable was Halloween. Then I found these, and now, it is growing on me. 🙂

These images give me the warm and fuzzies. I forgot how much fun Fall can be.

What do I love about Fall? First and foremost I would say Halloween. Next in line would be the apple picking, pumpkin carving, warm apple cider or tall cups of hot chocolate, snuggling on chilly nights, watching the leaves turn from green, to red, to orange, candy apples, and so much more.

TaTa you hot, sticky, sweaty, smelly summer!!! Although i could leave off the halloween line, not that i hate it or anything...just not a huge fan of it, thats all. I like being chilly and having warm coffee and warm sweaters. Bring. On. The. Fall.

So what do you love about Fall?

Mr. Grumpy Pants

My little man has been feeling under the weather as of late, and it would seem that all the anticipation of Christmas is getting to him….to put it simply, last night he was Mr. Grumpy Pants. I thought I could cheer him up by telling him the fun evening activities we had planned. That was a big ol’ FAIL! When I told him we would be cutting out snowflakes he just broke down and started crying; not the reaction I was hoping for.

So after dinner, as he sat on the couch looking more like this…..

I thought this just won’t do. Change of plans! Snowflakes are out, Christmas cartoons are in. I made up three cups of super creamy hot chocolate, put on the Grinch (the cartoon) and snuggled on the couch with our little man.

Of course I did manage to snap a couple of close ups……seriously, hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream, gingerbread man marshmallows and a candy cane! I just couldn’t resist! 😉

After all our cups were empty and the movie was over, JBear crawled in bed with us and drifted off to sleep with a smile on his precious little face. All in all, it was a good night.

What did you guys do last night?

Snowflakes and Candy Canes

With all the stress and craziness of the holidays, it is nice to just take a night and decompress. For us, this means cutting out snowflakes and sipping on hot chocolate while watching Christmas specials or shutting off the T.V. all together and enjoying each other’s company.

Now I know this may be shocking, but for me, making paper snowflakes was always a difficult task. I know….I know….how on earth could this be hard?? Amazingly enough, I always seem to cut where I am not supposed to and end up with snowflake quarters, rather than an entire snowflake. Yes, that is my curse. But not this year!!! I am taking some preventative measures and doing my research ahead of time.

I was really surprised to see the range of paper snowflake creations out there.

You can get super fancy and try out some 3-D snowflakes:

Both are so pretty but way out of my league.

Being realistic in my snowflake creation abilities, I think it best to keep it old-school and stick with the one dimensional flakes. These would be so cute hanging from a window or the top of a doorway. And bonus….they come with directions. 😉

And as I said, making paper snowflakes can only be enhanced by sipping on some hot chocolate as a candy can slowly dissolves into it, enhancing the flavor. Topped off with marshmallows and/or whip cream…..forget the snowflakes, all I need is this! 😉

In an attempt to fancy things up this year, I scoured the internet and found this recipe. I’ll let you know if it is a keeper in my books tomorrow.

Ingredients

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

3/4 cup white sugar

1 pinch salt

1/3 cup boiling water

3 1/2 cups milk

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup half-and-half cream

Directions

1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn’t scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

What are you guys doing tonight? Anyone want to partake in the Snowflakes and Candy Cane tradition? We can swap pictures of our creations tomorrow.
