Now You See It…..

Be prepared to be in awe….well maybe not so much. But our back yard make over is still pretty awesome in my books and I am in awe by the transformation that we were able to accomplish with some hard work and at minimal expense.

Let’s take a look at a before picture, this blast from the past was taken last year, and as you can tell our back yard was not very functional or attractive.

So what to do? What to do? What to do?

First thing was to get rid of a couple of eye sores like this bush that was overtaking everything around it.

Now you see it…..

Now you don’t…

Next was the stone wall that separated our yard into two levels. I am still perplexed as to why this was added. At one point I even tried to plant some hasta at the top, or flowers that would cascade but nothing ever turned out and after a while I just gave up trying to beautify this portion of our yard.

This was a little more intensive than just ripping out a bush with a truck. Those stones were bigger and heavier than I originally thought, not to mention a whole lot more than I thought.

We did get to take a quick break to meet a new friend who we promptly named Banana even though he was orange.

Now for the contouring step. After much thought and deliberation we decided to slope the yard a little and create a wrap around driveway. This is where Jason worked his magic and used a little John Deer to transform the yard into something we could actually use.

Here are some before pictures:

And now for the transformation.

You can really see how it will look now.SONY DSC

Here Jason decided to widen out our driveway a little which was much appreciated by yours truly.

Add a dash of gravel and voila!

This was all done while I was gone to my mom’s for the weekend. When I came back, I couldn’t believe the transformation. He also added four little maple trees (three lining the driveway) and one closer to the back. They will look gorgeous when they grow larger.

We are in the process of re-seeding the entire yard and then adding some finishing touches, such as flowers, more mulch, and maybe a DIY stone fire pit (after all we have all those stones. might as well use them). So stay tuned for more progress pics.

In the meantime, tell me what you think of this makeover? Was it an improvement? What would you have done differently? What finishing touches would you add?

Warding Off The Winter Blues

I live in an area where winter lasts from October/November-ish to around May. That means bundling up, heavy boots and tons of layers. For those of you who do not live in a “winter wonderland”, you may picture it as follows….

Beautiful, right? This is an illusion.

Given our wacky temperature fluxes this is what tends to happen around this time of year. We get snow, then it melts, then some rain, then it freezes, then it melts again, another layer of snow….and after all that you end up having something more like this…

Everything feels muddy, cold, and dirty. UGH!!! This is the part I hate the most. This concoction of wintery sludge has a tendency to stick to you like glue. Forget wearing any cute shoes, those babies will be destroyed before you even get to your car.

The only thing that keeps me sane during these months is perusing spring fashions, makeup, etc. This does wonders for the winter blues and allows me to prep for spring. 😉

Since I have been wearing mostly greys and blacks to camouflage all any the sludge that gets on me, I find myself longing for colour. These outfits are super cute:

I absolutely love this look; the blue and bright green play off each other beautifully. Now, where would/could I ever wear this?? Hmmm, maybe in NYC, as I cross of the “Sex In The City Night” off my Bucket List.

Ahhh….feeling better already. 😀

What do you do to ward off the winter blues? Or for those of you that are  lucky enough to have summer all year round, what do you do to change it up?

Pin Up Girl Collaboration

As you may have remembered in a previous post I teamed  up with Anouchka from Life of Bun  to do a makeup collaboration. definitely check out her page, her look is beautiful!

Here is how our collaboration worked, I chose a topic/look and we both do our take on it. There were so many awesome ones to choose from but for my first collaboration I finally settled on 1940’ish Pin Up Girl look.

I also decided to do this via video and pictures which is a first for me. So rather than rattle on, let’s get right too it. Again, this is my first video so be kind. 😉

And now for the videos….ahhhh I’m SO nervous. One quick note, the video was super long so I had to break it down into part one and part two.

I will update this post with colours I used from the smash box palate.  Have a happy Monday!
