Bathroom Musings

It’s not what you think. 😉 Although my best ideas come to me while I am in the shower, these musings are actually about my bathroom. You see, I want to freshen it up. A new coat of paint, maybe some curtains, lights….and this is where the daydream takes off.

This first image has a very similar set up as our downstairs bathroom.  I love how crisp and clean everything looks. Our tile is an off white so I’m not sure how well the blue wall colour would go with it but I love the white and the added touches.

Just the right amount of mint, not too much so that it starts to look like the Lizzie Borden house... a tad lighter for downstairs bath

I am in love with this paint pallet, what do you guys think?

These looks are a little darker but the grey really works with the tan tile and deeper brown. Yet another possibility.

I love the tile & color ... however, I think gray is too cool for a bathroom. The tile & porcelain already feel cool, you will end up always feeling cold in here.

And of course details matter, so I thought these little touches would be cute. I love the labels on the jars, adds that little extra and still keeps it very clean-looking.

I also love the idea of taking down the towel bars and using these hooks. To be painfully honest, we never use the towel bars anyways. At least this way the towels will be hung rather than slung over the side of the shower.

So how would you describe your bath room? Clean and crisp? Family friendly? What little touches have you added to make it personal?

And, of course, I just had to share this photo with you all. Look at the size of this tub. Can you imagine how much water you would have to use to fill that sucker up? IT’S AWESOME!!! Not really logical but STINKIN AWESOME!

DIY Vase Makeover

It is time for the unveiling of my submission in the Winter Edition Pintrest Challenge.

If you recall, I had so many cute ideas to choose from and it was too hard to choose just one, so I did a couple and I will post about each later on. For this challenge, I decided to submit my take on the DIY Vase Makeover.

Here was my Pinsiration:

I chose an empty Desorono bottle which I thought was quite pretty (and tasty) and a clear vase that I had tucked away.

We had some purplish paint left over from our JBear’s room which will complement the green hallway upstairs. I know that sounds crazy but trust me, the purple against the green looks so pretty. 🙂

I laid out some newspaper on the counter to accommodate my extreme clumsiness. This was a great idea since I managed to spill some paint just by opening the lid. 😉

Using a paper cup, I scooped up some paint and began pouring it into the empty bottle.

I used a wet paper towel to wipe up the paint that spilled on the outside of the bottle and then began to swirl the paint around so that it covered every side.

Once the inside of the bottle was fully coated I repeated the process on the vase.

As to how much paint to use in each, it is really just a guess. I kept adding a little at a time if I thought it needed it. I was amazed at how different they looked just by adding some colour. Picture these babies filled with flowers….can you tell I am dreaming of spring. 😉

I found a broken necklace that I had been hanging onto and added it to the vase for a little flair.

What do you think? Is this something you would do? I must admit I am hooked.  These are so easy and quick to make and that my friends is my motto. 🙂

A big thank you to SherryKatie, Megan, and Michelle, who hosted this edition of the Pintrest Challenge. Don’t forget to pop on over to their site and check out what DIY goodness they came up with.

Happy DIY’ing and thanks for stopping by.

Break Time Is Over

It isn’t that we’ve been dragging our feet on doing household renovations, it’s just that…….okay we’ve been dragging our feet. Who can blame us? Soaking up the nice weather with family has a way of taking over. But no worries….break time is over and it is back to work for us.

Where to start? Let’s talk the heart of the home: the kitchen.

Our kitchen is fairly small. The cupboards, countertop and appliances are out dated.

Here is a picture of the very small dinette:

Remodeling a kitchen can be extremely costly and frankly isn’t in our budget. So how do you make an old kitchen new? Throw up a couple coats of paint and VOILA!!! New kitchen…..or so I had hoped. Don’t be fooled, it isn’t as easy as it looks.

I attempted to do a makeover last year and (as I bow my head in shame) it was an epic fail! The colours I chose were pretty; they just weren’t pretty with each other. I wanted our kitchen to have a warm Italian feel. This was my vision:

So hideous was the outcome that I did everything in my power to hide the monster I created and yet it still found a way to sneak into photos. Prepare yourselves…..shield your child’s eyes….if you have eaten then you may want to look away…..

AHHHH THE HORROR!!!! Okay – so maybe it isn’t that bad but it wasn’t what I was going for. 😉 The orange with the black was just too dark, perhaps if I went with a lighter colour for my cupboards this would work. Or should I keep the black cupboards and change the colour of the wall? Or should I try to save this somehow by adding a different colour backsplash? Perhaps a new mood board would help facilitate this decision.

So while I work away on that, feel free to weigh in, offer up your suggestions, or share with us your stories of DYI gone wrong.
